Missing the Man

Image
While we were fortunate enough to get tickets to Burning Man this year , I'll be watching the Man burn from Whitehorse. Chris and I made the difficult decision to skip Burning Man when we found out I was pregnant and our home renovations suddenly had a looming deadline. I'll be watching the live stream and wishing I could be there on the playa with my little brothers and all the other crazy burners while the Man goes up in flames. But honestly, I'm a little relieved I'm not stuck out in the heat and dust in my current state. Next year will be awesome!

Legal Anniversary

Image
Because the rules in Ontario are pretty strict, the wedding we wanted wouldn't be legal. So a year ago today, Chris and I were legally wed in the Ottawa City Hall. I was still on crutches thanks to broken toes and only our parents and a few close friends were there. Our awesome friend Mike was kind enough to take some photos and film the ceremony.   While the legal wedding was really just a formality for Chris and I (the wedding with all our friends and family is what mattered to us), tonight we celebrated our anniversary because Chris will be working on what we consider our real anniversary. We went for a delicious dinner at Antoinette's and talked about much much our lives have changed in the last year. It's been an incredible year!

Building Permit Acquired!

So our home renovations are a little behind schedule (funny how a pregnancy and unexpected summer workload will do that) but today we finally got our building permit!

YukomiCon

Chris and I didn't even have a chance to unpack from our trip before we were helping set up the YuKonstruct table at YukomiCon . The first Yukon comic convention was a lot of fun! Hundreds of people stopped by our table to find out more about our makerspace. We had a 3D printer set up (which always attracts lots of curious folks), a diy comic creation station and a cosplay repair station so people could fix any wardrobe malfunctions before the costume ball. Chris tinkering with the 3D printer Speaking of the costume ball, Chris and I obviously wanted to attend but we only had a few spare hours to put together some costumes. Unfortunately I don't fit into most of the outfits in our tickle trunk at the moment, so we threw together a last minute Rick and Lori from the Walking Dead. Don't look so happy Rick, the baby is probably Shane's Enjoying a special YukomiCon beer from Yukon Brewing

What we've been up to

Things have been pretty quiet on this blog lately, but it's not because we haven't been busy. Chris and I recently got back from two weeks out east. We were in Halifax for a week for my work and then we threw on a week in Ottawa to visit friends and family, and to get some shopping done, before returning to the Yukon. It was really great to visit Nova Scotia since neither Chris nor I had ever been there before. Work kept me pretty busy, but we did get to enjoy a bit of the scenery and sea food. And we even squeezed in a quick visit with friends . It's a beautiful part of the country and I'd love to see more of the Maritimes in the future!
