The one that got away?

Image
Chris and I have very reluctantly decided not to make an offer on this rather incredible row house . I think our agent and our parents are now breathing a collective sigh of relief. The decades (especially the 60s and 70s) have not been kind to this pre-1900s place.

Not to jinx the playoffs...

But this weekend I made some rather festive penguins. I didn't consider the negative reaction some Senators fans would have towards penguins in party hats until after I had a plate full of the little guys wobbling around the deviled eggs. Perhaps foreshadowing the game to come, we destroyed them here in Ottawa. So why did I make penguin appetizers? After seeing them on Once Upon a Plate I knew I had to give it a try. This weekend we celebrated Chris' birthday and he just happens to love penguins. Unfortunately, he doesn't love olives as much, but he still appreciated the adorable hors d'oeuvres. You can make your own partying penguins to devour before tonight's game with my latest instructable .

Could Bridgehead be any more awesome?

Image
I love delicious, fair trade, organic and locally run coffee. Before today I wouldn’t have thought it was possible to like Bridgehead any more than I already do. Then I walked into the new Sparks Street location. Eames chairs! OMG! Yeah, they’re the cheaper Modernica versions and not the officially licensed Herman Miller chairs , but they’re still so sexy. And orange, you gotta love the orange!

Velociraptor Awareness Day

Image
As it is Velociraptor Awareness Day , it's a great day to tell you why the dinosaur I'm building is not going to be a velociraptor. You can't ride a velociraptor. They're just too tiny. So instead of building a puny little velociraptor, I'm working on a young allosaurus. I think I'll call him Little Al.

The Prom is on!

Tickets are now on sale for Promdemonium 2010 ! Chris and I went shopping for our outfits this weekend and I found an awesome mod 60s mini dress at Ragtime . before I've taken off the sleeves and altered it a bit at the waist. Now I just need to decide whether or not I should take down the hem to make it an inch longer.   after? I can't wait to pair it with a super cute headband with matching boutonniere for Chris. I've ordered a kit from Princess Lasertron and I'm really looking forward to making some felt flowers. The end result should look like this only in mint greens and chocolate browns. Boutonniere by Princess Lasertron As usual, we had a hard time finding anything to fit Chris. I had high hopes for this jacket , but my emails to seller 19 Vintage Clothing have gone unanswered.   Tall Dark and Handsome Supra Suede Blazer Hopefully we can find something similarly awesome. Otherwise he might need to break out the tux t-shirt! Promdemonium 2009

Twist ties are no match for these rats

Noi can now open her cage door. She can also remove any twist ties I use to try to keep it shut. At the moment, I have clothespins keeping the door closed and the rats safe from Simone, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Noi figures out how to get by those too.

A Perfect Pair?

And I thought Sarkozy was a weird request...   Chuck Norris & Bryan Adams It's an unusual request for a wedding gift but I hope the lucky couple like it.

Everybody was disco dancing

Image
Saturday night, Chris and I laced up some roller skates. The Ottawa Roller Derby girls hosted a roller disco party and Chris and I had a great time skating with friends to some sweet disco tunes. They rent quad skates for $5, but I was thrilled to break out my own vintage blue skates (originally purchased to complete this outfit ). They looked better when I wasn't flailing around in them, but after an hour or so I started to get the hang of it. I'm going to have to go to their next event because I've still got a long way to go before I can hope to keep up with the awesome roller derby girls.
